About Us

Welcome

Excom Publishers was born out of a need to provide materials for the changing curriculum in 2008. With the initial offering of Studying Business, it endeavoured to capture the move away from the old, prescriptive syllabus of Business Economics, to the new subject of Business Studies. This provided far more scope for keeping in touch with modern business thinking and truly preparing learners for the world of work as well as tertiary studies in commerce. The books are written by experienced teachers, examination panel members who are at the fore-front of educational developments. In addition, links to the real business world enables us to provide up to date links to modern business practice and methodologies.

To date the range boasts not only Business Studies books, but new subjects have been added including EMS (Economic and Management Sciences), Life Orientation and Science with more on the horizon.

The Business Studies range is paired with innovative Summary Workbooks which have been popular from their inception as they provide learners with concise note-taking, test- and examination preparation tools.

EMS books are available in two formats:
• CAPS compliant
• Accounting based (with a separate book covering Business and Economic concepts)
to cover all the different options that schools offer in Grade 8 and 9 as well as a Grade 7 EMS book with a stand-alone Entrepreneurship Section.

The Business Studies and EMS books are all available in Afrikaans.

The Grade 10 – 12 Research 101 booklet is a handy guide to introducing Research Skills which are essential to the modern student of every subject.
Life Orientation
Life Orientation is central to the holistic development of learners. It addresses skills, knowledge and values for the personal, social, intellectual, emotional and physical growth of learners, and is concerned with the way in which these facets are interrelated. Life Orientation guides and prepares learners for life and its possibilities and equips them for meaningful and successful living in a rapidly changing and transforming society. The ‘Studying Life Orientation’ series, in association with Life Publishers, covers all CAPS requirements in workbook formats.
Special Feature in Life Orientation books: ‘Ethics for Life’
International educational trends show that introducing learners to ethics through research and debate supports the development of positive social, emotional, environmental and global values. Each grade has a section or task where the development of ethical living is encouraged through debate, reading, research, discussion and thought.
